Project Design Description
1. Project Overview
A brand-new professional recording facility, Xing Studio, has officially opened in Singapore. More than just the creation of a recording space, this project represents a cross-border collaboration built on trust, expertise, and a shared commitment to excellence.
The design was guided by three core principles: acoustics first, functionality above all, and a cohesive premium aesthetic. The goal was to create a professional audio environment that delivers outstanding acoustic performance, an exceptional user experience, and a refined visual identity.
Xing Studio is positioned as a high-end facility for recording, mixing, mastering, and Dolby Atmos production. The project was fully coordinated remotely by a design team based in Beijing, covering concept development, acoustic engineering, design supervision, material selection, and international construction support. It stands as a successful example of a high-standard professional studio project executed across regions and time zones.
Drawing upon extensive experience in acoustic and interior design, the team overcame challenges including international communication, remote construction management, and demanding acoustic requirements. By integrating Singapore’s local regulations, climate conditions, and construction practices into the design process, the project achieved a seamless “Designed in Beijing, Built in Singapore” delivery model.
The result is a professional recording studio that combines exceptional acoustic performance with a striking contemporary aesthetic.
2. Space Planning
With a total floor area exceeding 115㎡, Xing Studio consists primarily of a Control Room and a Recording Room.
Control Room – 58㎡
As the operational heart of the studio, the control room is organized around a central workstation and employs a symmetrical acoustic layout. This configuration ensures that the listening position remains within the optimal acoustic zone, providing accurate stereo imaging and precise front-to-back spatial localization for critical mixing and mastering work.
The workstation integrates a professional audio workstation, digital mixing console, and monitor control system, supporting the complete workflow from multitrack recording to immersive audio production.
The room is equipped with a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos monitoring system, enabling advanced music, film, and immersive audio production. The generous 58㎡ floor area provides sufficient depth for optimal speaker placement and reverberation control, allowing sonic details to be reproduced with exceptional clarity and accuracy.
An illuminated “XING STUDIO” logo is embedded within the wall, serving both as a strong brand statement and a visual focal point. Its glow contrasts elegantly with the neutral-toned interior, enhancing the studio’s premium identity and spatial character.
Recording Room – 57㎡ (Including Sound Lock)
To accommodate a wide variety of recording applications, the recording room balances sound absorption and diffusion throughout its acoustic treatment strategy.
Whether capturing the rich dynamics of a grand piano, the powerful energy of a drum kit, or the subtle nuances of vocal performances, the room is designed to deliver consistent, natural, and highly detailed recordings.
A dedicated sound lock provides an additional acoustic buffer between spaces, effectively minimizing noise transmission and ensuring a clean recording environment.
3. Design Aesthetic: Contemporary Black & Grey Studio Environment
The overall interior adopts a sophisticated black and grey palette, creating a calm, focused, and immersive atmosphere.
Contrasting textures of acoustic fabric and wood finishes introduce visual depth while maintaining a restrained and professional appearance. Clean lines and minimal detailing reinforce the project’s emphasis on functionality and simplicity.
Key design characteristics include:
Smooth, uninterrupted surfaces and carefully controlled architectural volumes.
Minimal decorative elements to avoid unnecessary visual and acoustic distractions.
A refined “less is more” design language that aligns with the aesthetic standards of leading international professional audio facilities.
More than a workplace, Xing Studio is designed as a creative environment that inspires artistic expression and innovation.
4. Project Challenges & Achievements
(1) International Collaboration
The project team successfully overcame the challenges associated with cross-border and cross-time-zone communication, maintaining efficient coordination with the Singapore-based investor throughout the design and construction process. This ensured that the original design vision was accurately translated into reality.
(2) Construction & Execution Challenges
Delivering a professional recording studio overseas involved complexities such as material logistics, local building regulations, and differences in construction standards and techniques.
Through rigorous supply chain management and comprehensive remote construction guidance, Dingdong Audio successfully navigated these challenges and ensured that every stage of the acoustic fit-out met the project’s exacting standards.
(3) Final Outcome
The completed studio faithfully reflects the original design intent and has become one of the most recognizable professional recording facilities in Singapore.
With a total area exceeding 115㎡, Xing Studio is also currently one of the largest professional recording studios in Singapore, offering world-class recording, mixing, mastering, and immersive audio production capabilities.
