Project Design Description
1. Project Overview
Meow’s Sound Studio is located in Guangming District, Shenzhen, and is the first certified 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos recording studio in Shenzhen. Situated within a residential building, the project faced particularly stringent acoustic requirements due to the sensitivity of the surrounding living environment. As a professional facility dedicated to high-quality recording and music production, the studio was designed to achieve professional-grade recording, mixing, and scoring capabilities while fully complying with residential acoustic standards.
2. Space Planning
The project occupies a total area of approximately 110㎡, comprising the following functional spaces:
Control Room
Piano Recording Room
Vocal Recording Room
Reception & Lounge Area
Restroom
3. Design & Technical Highlights
(1) Residential Conversion with High-Performance Sound Isolation
Given the unique challenges of a residential setting, the entire studio was designed with comprehensive sound isolation measures. Extensive acoustic treatments effectively minimize external noise intrusion and sound leakage, ensuring a quiet, stable, and professional recording environment while maintaining harmony with the surrounding residential community.
(2) Control Room: Genelec 8340A 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos Monitoring System
The control room is equipped with a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos monitoring system built around the Genelec 8340A series, providing a professional platform for advanced audio production, including:
Film and television scoring
Game audio production
Immersive music mixing
Dolby Atmos content creation
(3) Piano Recording Room
The piano recording room features a distinctive acoustic design inspired by the visual language of piano keys.
The wall treatment consists of irregularly angled acoustic modules that resemble a sequence of dynamic piano keys. These elements not only provide effective acoustic control but also bring rhythm and movement to the space.
Dedicated sheet music display cabinets and cable storage systems have been incorporated to improve organization and support daily studio operations.
(4) Vocal Recording Room: Concealed Foley Pit
A concealed Foley pit is integrated into the floor. The floor hatch can be opened when Foley recording is required and closed during regular vocal recording sessions, allowing the room to seamlessly accommodate multiple functions while maximizing space efficiency.
(5) Overall Design Concept
The overall design combines layered spatial composition with geometric forms to create a dynamic, contemporary, and inspiring creative environment. Through the interplay of varying volumes, angles, and architectural details, the studio achieves a balance between professional functionality, modern aesthetics, and artistic expression.
Conclusion
Meow’s Sound Studio is a residential-conversion recording facility that sets a new benchmark for professional studio design in Shenzhen. Built upon a foundation of high-performance sound isolation, the project integrates Dolby Atmos mixing, piano recording, vocal production, and Foley recording capabilities within a single cohesive environment.
With its rich spatial character, modern architectural language, and professional acoustic performance, the studio successfully establishes a model for a music production space that is quiet, professional, and visually distinctive, even within a residential setting.
